Our meeting this quarter took place LIVE AND IN PERSON at Tri-Mach Group. Special thanks to Tri-Mach Group for hosting us once again in their wonderful meeting space and also for providing beverages and snacks! Your community involvement is truly appreciated.
Sharron began the meeting with the news that 100 Woolwich Women has now donated $138,505 to date. That translates to a LOT of impact in the community. Our membership is holding steady at 91 members, so if you have a friend who would consider joining our efforts, please refer them to our Join Us page.
Rosslyn Bentley (WCHC) and Mariia (House Manager)
Last quarter’s recipient – Woolwich Guest House for Ukrainian Refugees in Transition – Rosslyn Bentley, Andrew Shulhin and Mariia Mamaisur. Mariia provided a full update on the families that have moved through the house and into the community. Our membership was grateful to hear that our donation is helping to make such an important impact.
Scotland’s Yard was this quarter’s donation recipient
For Scotland’s Yard, we heard from Joy Stewart, mother of Scottie – a 3 year old girl who was born facing unthinkable challenges. Joy shared her family’s struggle with managing cancer treatments outside of the region and how she and her husband had the initiative to push for a Pediatric Cancer Centre at Grand River Hospital, making it more accessible to families in our region. The money raised from our donations will be put towards the first step in achieving that goal – the procurement of a 7 million dollar PET Scan machine.
As well, we heard from Lisa at the Woolwich Community Hub, a renovation of the Woolwich Youth Centre. This is a community space for all ages, all walks of life to come together for game nights, crafts, special speakers, presentations and more. It represents exactly what our vision of Woolwich should be.
Melissa from WRSCP
Our final presentation of the night was by Melissa at the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council. They are doing great things providing (un-funded) presentations and resources to our students in middle school in Woolwich.
